Shaw Family History |
– We got great scenes in this episode between Colter and his sister, Dory. – Dory is a university professor, so Colter’s case of a missing student and the family history interject in this episode. She teases Colter about not keeping in touch. – Colter shares with her, the file that he has on their father. – The file contains information on their father being an employee of the government for 7 years. – In what capacity is still a mystery but Colter is especially uneasy about the fact that their mother knew this information and failed to share it with them. – Dory admits to Colter that she keeps in touch with Russell, and she knows that Colter has been ditching Russell’s attempts to connect with him. – At the end of the episode, Dory and Colter have dinner together. Dory asks Colter why he doesn’t stop by more, and she suspects it is because he resents her a little. Dory believes it is because she left him and went to live with their Aunt and Uncle, while Colter remained with their mother. – Colter said he stayed because their mother needed him. Their Dad was dead, Russell was gone, and she had no one else. While Colter obviously sees his mother as someone who needs his support, especially after everything they went through with their father, Dory remembers it differently. – Dory sees her mother in a very different way. She believes that their mother is no victim of circumstance but instead played a very willing part in all of their father’s plans. – She hoped that if her and Colter talk it through, they can put their tumultuous childhood events behind them. – More than anything, she wants her brothers back, both of them. – She tells Colter that whatever version of events he is being fed via their mother, is either a lie or a manipulation. – Dory believes their mother still lives in the past and that is why she continues to hold it over her children. – Dory tells Colter that, in her opinion, their mother preserves a distorted image of who their father was. – According to Dory, their Mother’s account of what happened is simply a lie. – She asks Colter once again, to please call their brother Russell. |
