Jensen Ackles Answers Q’s About Rules of Prey
This past weekend, Creation Entertainment hosted it’s latest installment of “The Road So Far Creation Tour” in Charlotte, North Carolina.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with this convention circuit (or those who want to enjoy a walk down memory lane), this article link should provide some history. Supernatural was a show that lasted for fifteen seasons, and one of its most endearing legacies has been the resilience and indomitable spirit of its own fan base. From amongst the fans within the SPN Family, lives the ready generosity of its members to share their experiences, stories, photos and videos for all to enjoy.
This weekend was no different, and on the topic of Jensen Ackles’ new project Rules of Prey, fans were able to ask questions. There wasn’t too many details Ackles could share, but what he could, left fans wanting more.
A Little about Rules of Prey Filming

Consistent with Ackles’ description of how the series is being shot, with two episodes in each of four blocks and four directors involved, the MGM+ Rules of Prey series page in the official Amazon MGM Studios Press Center, identifies four directors linked with the show:
Daniel Sackheim (Pilot and Episode 2);
Sackheim is an Emmy winning director and producer whose credits include Lovecraft Country, True Detective, Jack Ryan, Better Call Saul, Ozark, The Leftovers, The Man in the High Castle, Game of Thrones, The Americans and The Walking Dead.

Jason Stone (episode credits not yet identified);
Stone has previous experience bringing a long established literary series to television through his work as lead director and executive producer on The Hardy Boys. His other credits include Legacies, Motherland: Fort Salem, Riverdale, Van Helsing, Aftermath and Rogue.

April Mullen (episode credits not yet identified);
Mullen, recipient of the Birk Diamond award honoring women’s impact in the film industry, and known for strong visual storytelling and ambitious camera work has directing credits that include Sullivan’s Crossing, Blood & Treasure, Tiny Pretty Things, The Rookie, Lethal Weapon and Wynonna Earp. She has also directed feature thrillers including Wander with Aaron Eckhart and Tommy Lee Jones and Simulant with Robbie Amell and Simu Liu.

Brad Turner (episode credits not yet identified);
Turner has hundreds of episodes of dramatic television to his credit including Boston Blue, MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, The Last Ship, Nikita, The Vampire Diaries, Homeland, 24, Bones, Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate SG-1, Alias, Andromeda and many others. Particularly significant is Turner’s participation on the production team for 24 (46 episodes) that won the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. Having Directed the miniseries Human Cargo, Stone received major directing recognition; the production received a Peabody Award.

When you pull all four of these talents together, this looks like anything but a randomly assembled group of directors. There is some exceptional talent here. Sackheim knows how to build suspense and atmosphere around character driven drama. Stone has already helped bring a long established book series to television with The Hardy Boys. Mullen brings a strong visual eye, an ambitious approach behind the camera and experience that stretches across both television and feature films. And Turner? He has more than two hundred episodes of television under his belt, including 46 episodes of 24 alone.
Admittedly, none of that tells us what the final product of Rules of Prey will look like, but having recently read John Sandford’s novel, I find myself fascinated and excited that all this talent has been assembled to tell the story.
Lucas Davenport’s First Costar
One of the more unexpected things Jensen Ackles has been able to share with fans is that he has been introduced to his first Rules of Prey costar, who turns out to be a 120 pound Rottweiler who goes by the name of Mr. W. This is the first departure from Sandford’s original telling, showing us the Bruce Terris/MGM+ made for television version of Lucas Davenport.

A Little More…
September 23, 2026 officially marks the first Rules of Prey article, signaling Found My Jam’s all inclusive coverage for Jensen Ackles’ MGM+ 2027 anticipated 8-episode series, currently being filmed in Toronto. Just Like Ackles’ Countdown series before it, and his upcoming Vought Rising series out the same year, Found My Jam will do all it can to share updates, media, thought provoking points of view, interesting facts and plenty of amusement.
