With Prime Video’s high-stakes new thriller Countdown only days away from the June 25th premiere, what a thrill it was to chat with co-stars Jessica Camacho and Violett Beane about the show, their characters and some behind-the-scenes camaraderie. Clearly, these powerhouse pros, like every other member of this task force, are invested in bringing Derek Haas’ vision of this tightly wound, exciting, edge-of-your-seat action thriller to life. For anyone who knows Derek Haas’ work, knows we can expect chemistry, conflict, complexity, drama and emotional nuance. As a showrunner, it’s his calling card, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Without further ado, lets dive into this interview with a brief hello to get us started.

After a quick hello, nothing sets the tone for chatting about Countdown like the following teaser, showing us how the task force begins to take shape…

Jessica Camacho is playing Amber Oliveras which for her, is the first time she has the female lead role in a streaming series. Getting to know what that was like for her was a great way to kick off our session together. What was even more special was these ladies poking a little fun at Jensen Ackles…

I love how Jessica was open enough to share her feelings on what it means to have this lead role, and the joys and challenges that come with it. Violett was right there cheering her on, offering up even more confirmation then we’ve seen already, that Countdown is a supportive and nurturing set.

And when it came time for Jessica to talk about her counterpart lead, Jensen Ackles, she had some lovely, warm and complementary things to share…

Before moving over to chat with Violett about her character Evan, sharing the next teaser trailer supports exactly what she says about how new and untried Evan Shepherd is. We see her here using such a youthful gesture as raising her hand to speak as Nathan Blythe, describes the mission to the team…

Violett articulated how Evan’s inexperience gave her leverage to really help grow that character into what and who she becomes not only within herself, but her place on the task force and the colleagues with whom she is working…

Violett shares with us how her character has the sleuthing qualities and the academic background that make her perfect for the job she has. Having the presence to be able to bring any level of awareness and knowledge into a role goes a long way in helping to embody a character as beautifully as she does with Evan Shepherd.

Supporting Violett’s assessment on the growth of her own character gave me the opportunity to share with her my own feelings on seeing that arc take shape.

I did mention the chemistry between Jessica’s character and Mark Meachum, but I said it badly and it sounded like I was talking about Evan and Amber. My apologies for fumbling that one Jessica. I am thoroughly impressed with her portrayal of what I can affectionately call, one kick-ass character in Amber Oliveras.

To elaborate further on this incredible lead-character chemistry, I’ll share another teaser trailer showing how some of that plays out. As many of these push-and-pull things take root, it often starts with a little healthy competition and a dose of animosity thrown in for good measure.

And finally, sharing what so many of us want to know about the behind-the-scenes interactions of the cast and crew, Jessica and Violett delivered the goods.
